Coming to the Mòd? Here’s our handy guide to getting to Paisley and getting around once you’re here.
Getting Here
Paisley town centre is a 12-minute drive from Glasgow city centre. The M8 motorway travels through Renfrewshire on its Greenock / Glasgow / Edinburgh route.
Paisley’s main rail station is Paisley Gilmour Street. The journey time from Glasgow Central to Paisley Gilmour Street is less than 15 minutes. Gilmour Street is also on a main line to Greenock, Gourock, Largs and Ayr. This station is ideally located for all the central event venues, being only a few minutes’ walk from most of them.
Trains also run from Glasgow Central to Paisley Canal, which is just to the south of the town centre. The Paisley Canal train takes around half an hour and are not as frequent as trains to Gilmour Street. Paisley Canal Station is around a ten-minute walk to the town centre.
Glasgow Airport is a ten-minute drive from Paisley Town Centre. Regular busses run between the airport and Paisley Gilmour Street Station, and other busses run directly into Glasgow.
Buses in Renfrewshire are run by McGills and First Bus. Taxis are available through several services including Renfrewshire Cab Co, Paisley’s Taxis, Craig Allen and Glasgow Airport Cabs. Other services are available online too.
Because of the Council’s commitment to Net Zero, and because Paisley Town Centre is very walkable, there are no shuttle busses between venues. If your choir or club needs to hire a bus to get from your accommodation to your venue, several private hire companies service the area. These include Scotland Coach Company, Boyd Coach Hire, McGills Private Hire and Stravaigin Minicoaches. Other services are available online too.
Getting around the event venues
Nearly all this year’s activities are taking place in Paisley Town Centre. All the central venues are within a casual ten-minute walk from one another.
There are a couple of venues outside Paisley Town Centre:
- The Tannahill Centre and Paisley Community Circus are based next to each other in Ferguslie, just to the West of central Paisley. Both are serviced by regular buses and are around a fifteen-minute drive from the town centre. Parking is available on site.
- King George V Playing Fields are in Renfrew. This state-of-the-art sporting facility is about a ten-minute drive to the north-east of Paisley Town Centre. Parking is available on site. Renfrew does not have a train station, so buses are your best public-transport option. If coming from Paisley, the McGills 21 bus departing from Smithhill Street will take you directly to the King George V Playing Fields.
Parking
If you’re bringing a car, Paisley has plenty of parking for you. The Renfrewshire Council website has a comprehensive guide to parking across the town centre. As well as plenty of on-street parking, there are 19 council-run car parks, with a mixture of short and long stay options.
Outside of the town centre, the Tannahill Centre and Paisley Community Circus in Ferguslie, and the King George V Playing Fields in Renfrew, all have their own on-site carparks.
